Run This Town...

Not the grammy winning song by Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Mr.West, but the team that clearly runs this town, the New York Yankees. It's no secret the Yanks are #1 here in the big city but something that has irked me over the past week is this debate over Johnny Damon. I listen to WFAN for most of the day, when im not in class im listening and it seems to me that a lot of fans have this feeling that the Yankees "need" Damon. My response, are you kidding!?

Just for (for lack of a better term) shits and gigs, lets take a look at the prospected lineup for this team. Now obviously, this wont be the exact line up, but thats not important.

Cano
Jeter
Nick Johnson
A-Rod
Tex
Granderson
Swisher
Posada
Gardner

Now, i don't know about you guys, but to me, this looks like an all-star lineup. This is clearly the best 1-9 in baseball, and heres a newsflash! You wont notice Damon is gone! This team is already so good that Johnny Damon will not be missed.
The point of this post is to simply show the Yankees fans that they have it EASY. They are calling up the FAN all day fighting over Damon when there is no real debate to have. All the Yankees fans need to do is sit back, relax, and take a nap till October rolls around.

The mess that is the Mets

Im sure most of you already know about this J.J. Putz business that has made its way out into the media recently. In case you are not aware, check out the story on Metsblog.com. Here are the quotes from Putz,

“When the trade went down last year, I never really had a physical with the Mets,”.... “I had the bone spur (in the right elbow). It was discovered the previous year in Seattle, and it never got checked out by any other doctors until I got to spring training.”....“I knew that I wasn’t right. I wasn’t healthy. The toughest part was having to face the media and tell them that you feel fine, even though you know there’s something wrong and they don’t want you telling them that you’re banged up.”

If this information is true then something needs to be done. The league needs to get involved and investigate how the players are being handled. It no longer bogles my mind that no players want to come here. As we all know, players talk. What player would want to come to the Mets, a team that is clearly number two in town, and risk being treated like a horse. I know if i was a player, my health would be my first priority. If a player isn't healthy they can't play, and if they can't play they can't make money, and if they can't make money they can't support their families. It's simple logic and it amazes me that this organization continues to make STUPID decisions time after time. Something needs to be done to fix the image of this organization, and it needs to be done fast. It seems that something new happens every week that makes me think less and less of ownership and the front office.
Ill end by saying this. I am a fan of the players and the name on the front of the jerseys, so i can not help but root for this team through all the ups and downs, but i have lost a lot of respect for the Wilpons and for Omar over the last two seasons.
