Get ready for the ride...

Being a fan of the Mets i have to say that i, like most, am very disappointed with the lack of movement this off season. The day after the season ended Omar and Mets ownership went on WFAN with Mike Francesa and told all of us that their priority this off season would be to improve the defense and the pitching. I think most would agree that while offense is very important, defense and pitching wins games. So, like a gullible fool, i believed them. I was excited for the winter meetings, i was excited for moves to be made, and to watch press conferences of new players putting on their Mets shirts for the first time. Jason Bay was the only player we saw do that.

To say Jason Bay is a bad defender is not fair. He is more than capable in the field and with his arm, but he is known as an offensive player. Aside from some other small signings that i wont mention because they are pretty insignificant, Jason Bay was the only player we brought on board. As far as i know, Bay can't pitch, and he is not a vast improvement on defense, so where did those priorities go? apparently they went right out the window...
Despite the hard times, i remain optimistic about this season. Yes, there are many questions that need to be answered, but i believe that this team can win. If the team is healthy there is a good chance that they will be right in the thick of things come mid season. I'm sure we will have our ups and downs, times where we believe we can win it all, and times where we declare the season over, but at the end of the day we have a lot of players that a lot of teams would love to have on their squad.
My advice to all the Met fans out there is this, Don't loose your mind in anger for the way this team is run. Don't loose sleep at night worrying about the pitching rotation, don't cram your brain with mathematical equations trying to figure out how many home runs David Wright will hit. Instead, sit back, relax, and watch the game. At the end of the day we are just fans, we have no control over what happens on the field or in the front office. We can call the radio stations screaming and yelling in frustration but in the end it won't make any difference. The only thing we can do as fans is enjoy the wonderful game of Baseball.

P.S. I know a lot of fans would love to stay under the radar right now by not wearing their gear for fear of being heckled or made fun of, but we need the colors shown now more than ever. When the team is good there are plenty of front running fans that will wear a Wright shirt or throw on a Mets hat because it matches their shirt, but the real fans need to rep our team when it's down. Please fans, wear your hats, jerseys, shirts, shoes, anything Mets. Keep the Mets stickers on your cars, dress your kids in their Mr.Met winter hat, the team we love is sick, and it's up to us to keep the spirits among fans.

First One!
